The University of Nebraska recently celebrated the completion of a new feedlot research, teaching, and extension center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center near Mead, Neb. The facility, named the Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center in honor of the late John and Beth Klosterman, will support cutting-edge research projects and educational opportunities in a state-of-the-art feedlot setting.
The Klosterman family, known for their contributions to Nebraska’s agriculture industry, has been a key supporter of the project. Along with other donors such as JBS USA, Greater Omaha Packing Co. Inc., Farm Credit Services of America, and Dennis and Glenda Boesiger, the Klostermans helped raise the $7.2 million needed for the facility. The University of Nebraska Foundation played a crucial role in securing private support for the project.
The Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center is one of the largest research feedlots globally, offering opportunities for teaching, outreach, and public-private partnerships. It features commercial-scale open air and covered pens, an individual animal feeding facility for precision research, and state-of-the-art equipment for animal handling and welfare.
