HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Discover Dairy’s “Adopt a Cow” program has begun enrollment for the 2024-25 school year, starting from May 1. This no-cost educational initiative, which reached over 1 million students globally last year, offers an engaging, year-long experience that introduces students to dairy farming in the United States. Participants can engage with activities centered around calves on the farm and the dairy farmers managing them. Enrollment is open until September 15, 2024.
Supported by donors of the Dairy Excellence Foundation and partners like the American Dairy Association Northeast and others, the program allows each enrolled classroom to be paired with a calf from a dairy farm.
Throughout the school year, teachers and students receive photos, video updates, and activity sheets to observe their calf’s growth. The program also includes hands-on learning activities and a curriculum aligned with Common CORE standards in Math, Reading, and Science.
The “Adopt a Cow” program also provides live virtual chats and farm tours, where students can interact directly with dairy farmers, meet their adopted calves, tour the farm, and ask questions about milk production. This immersive experience helps students understand the dairy industry and food origins.
Discover Dairy is an educational initiative by the Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with several dairy associations across the country.
