Legacy System Slowing Down Operations

The client wanted to modernize an existing legacy system software that was impacting performance and slowing down their pig farming processes from breeding and gestation to grow-finish. The current system they had was challenging them in the following ways:

  • The user interface was difficult to use and the design wasn’t very appealing. The grids in the system frustrated the users and weren’t easy to use.
  • The system used outdated technology that lacked advanced features and new updates. It made the system very slow, which had a negative effect on the user experience.
  • The system took very long to load. For instance, if one clicked on one of the data planes to produce data, it took 7 to 10 seconds to appear, which naturally slowed down performance.

Building the Solution

Revamping The Existing Solution Using Modern Technology

Using modern technologies, we revamped the solution’s UI and UX and migrated it to a scalable platform, enabling tracking of animal intake and outflow, feeding, weight, ownership, and movement through packing and shipping, with mobile data entry and break-even analysis.

The solution introduced capabilities across pork group events, feeding, packer sales, and accounting, enabling the client to manage both farm level activities and downstream processes more effectively.

Pork Group Events

The solution enabled the client to manage pork group activities, including grading sheets, barn records, inventory tracking, and mortality monitoring, more efficiently.

Feed

The solution supported automation of feed orders and sample management through FastAPIs, reducing manual effort and improving consistency in feed-related operations.

Packer Sales

Advanced capabilities were introduced to manage shipment settlements, cull sales, and import processes, improving visibility and control across sales-related activities.

Accounting

New features enabled tracking of weaned pig placements, feed transfer exports to NAV, and management of live haul and feed trucking operations.

Boar/Sow Enrollment & Farming

The solution enabled automated data entry for animal enrollment, feeding, and farrowing, along with error correction, research trials, and sow treatment history tracking.
